Simon Scales is a freelance video game concept artist and matte painter based in Australia. He is also an owner/instructor at the Concept Design Workshop (CDW) Studios. Since 2008 Simon has provided key concept art and matte-paintings for the LEGO Group. He also worked on the game DeBlob 2: The Underground for THQ and has developed concept art for numerous video game companies and publishers including End Game Studios and Blue Tongue Entertainment.
Prior to working in video games Simon worked as a children's book illustrator for 10 years and is represented internationally by Shannon Associates. In 2008 Simon attended the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, California where he learnt from some of the best concept artists in the industry.
When he is not freelancing at all hours of the day, Simon manages CDW. CDW Studios evolved from a series of highly successful live Concept Design Workshops held throughout Australia and New Zealand. CDW Studios is a private school offering courses and workshops for students and industry professionals taught by world class industry artists in a realistic studio setting.
